HOW TO INSTALL A WOOD FENCE

DIY GUIDE TO YOUR NEW WOODEN FENCE

DIY - How to build a wood fence

Follow these steps to make a fence all by yourself:

  1. Measure the area. To figure out how much fence you need, measure the site's perimeter you want to fence in. Once you know how many linear feet of fencing you need, then you can calculate how many posts, rails, and pickets you'll need.
  2. Decide where to place gates. Before you install the fence, figure out where the gate will go. On the ground, outline where the gate will be with spray paint.
  3. String line the area. To mark the fence's location, tie a piece of stable string around it. At every 6 to 8 feet along the line, use spray paint to make marks on the ground. These dots will show you where to put the fence posts. Each print should be equally distant from one another.
  4. Dig holes for posts. Make sure the holes are three times as broad as the posts. Dig post holes that are one-third of the total height of the pole. You should spray paint markings carefully when installing the posts. Call your local utility company if you are unsure about the location of any underground utility pipes.
  5. Add your base material. Put 3 inches of material in each post hole and pack it in with the bottom of the fence post.
  6. Prepare Concrete for Post Holes. Mix the concrete so that it is ready to be poured soon.
  7. Put in posts. Drive a fence post into each hole. Then, around the post, pour the liquid concrete. Have someone else hold the pillar straight while you pour. After that, place 2 inches of dirt on top of the hardened concrete.
  8. Add horizontal rails. Install the horizontal rails between each post after the posts are in place and the concrete has cured. Using a drill, make sure each rail is firmly connected to a post. Attach a top rail and a bottom rail to each pole. You may also add a middle rail for more stability. Make sure the rails are straight as you go, using a level if necessary.
  9. Hammer in the pickets. Finally, secure the pickets to the horizontal rails. Every picket is attached to a rail using your drill or hammer between each post. Once in a while, use a level to ensure that all pickets' tops are flush.
  10. Stain the fence for lasting results. Add a wood stain of your choice to every wood part of the fence. You can also paint it and change the color if you wish, but add a protectant first to make the wood last longer, either way.
